I’m sugar free

For me the best thing I’ve done for myself is to be off sugar.

I lived on sugar as a child. Cordial drinks after school. Sweet homemade biscuits. Dinner was always followed by dessert, and in the evening, we had sweets and chocolates. This was every day!

Then as an adult, chocolate was one of the three food groups. Red wine, Coffee and Chocolate. I would buy it in bulk. Seven 250-gram blocks at a time. I would often eat two of these a day. That’s 500 grams of chocolate !!!

I’m now 58 and I’m overweight. So being sugar free is the key to feeling really good. It’s like being a different person!

When I eat sugar, I feel sluggish, bloated and fuzzy in the head. Sugar gives me a false sense of peace, just like alcohol does. Being sugar free takes courage but very much worth it 100%

Gavin.

  1. I’m very happy for you. You are swearing off of sugar, I am swearing off of people. In my lifetime the majority of people are toxic to me so I’m pretty much a recluse now and better off for it.

  2. I lived on the 3 same food groups for many, many years. I was a wine aficionado at one time and I don’t miss alcohol except on the occasion Summer thoughts of a great Margaritas. I still eat sugar but limit myself to 1 or 2 small bites of dark chocolate, I’m Choco addicted. I would give up a meal if I had to for a piece of chocolate. I eat very little processed foods, don’t drink alcohol or smoke, not even cigars anymore. I’m healthier for it. Quitting sugar 100% is hard and not the weak. 🙂

  3. That’s really great Gavin I’m so happy you quit sugar and are feeling great from it. I understand what you mean about the sugar spike and then low afterwards it really can mess with how you feel I try and avoid it too but not able to get rid of it completely like you. Big hugs Athena

    1. I bought a packet of corn chips only to discover they had 6gm of sugar in them. So many things have sugar in them. I now read the labels. G.

  4. When I started, I made a conscious decision to allow myself to have carbs.

Unfortunately, this did backfire on me, and I ended up putting on weight.

I’m only now cutting down on my carbs to keep in-line with my sugar free lifestyle.
