      1. I knoooow…the Nifty Fifty is one o my favourite lenses out there. Some of my best work was taken with that lens in manual mode.

Tell you what, another fantastic lens is the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektogon 35/2.4- even better DOF. It’s a traditional vintage film camera (you may already know all of this etc,) that adapts to your digital camera with an M42 adapter ring (adapter ring costs $10). I like using old M42 adaptable vintage film cameras because the digital lenses that cost $500 only cost $100 or so using the adapter ring. And, it gives your images that old “texturey” film look that I love.

You’ve seen this one, probably, but this was taken using the Carl Zeiss (Jena Flektogon) : https://monochromejunkie.com/2015/04/19/bedhead/
I shouldn’t say its DOF is “better”, but it’s different. Its bokeh is thick and rich, rather than just deep. Also, the Carl Zeiss is a fantastic walkaround. Great for macros.
