This may sound a bit odd but there are things I think everyone should watch.
This six-part series is one of them, that I feel everyone should watch, even though it is truly horrific.
I had no idea that another human could do this to a child. I’m still trying to recover from seeing it. I think it will stay with me forever. In my heart I will remember Gabriel every day.
My first memories of my life were being scared of my parents, but Gabriel must have been completely terrified of his mother and her boyfriend. He was so terrified that he wrote letters say he was going to kill himself.

Some of the show I wasn’t able to watch so I skipped through those bits. The mother’s testimony being one of the things I could NOT watch.

Sounds too painful for me.
I’m sure there are many people who cannot see it. G
I don’t understand how you can watch such painful shows, don’t they trigger you?
Yes. Of course they are triggering. But they help me to see past just my own pain. What am I grateful for? This question gets lost in my own self centred-ness. G
I understand that, when I see other’s in terrible shape I don’t think about myself.
For the same reason I follow you…you are a true inspiration, for I Would not survive what you have to deal with. G
You are to kind, Gavin. I can watch lots of bad things but after having a breakdown after being triggered form a show I was watching, I’m more careful. Hugs.
What show was it? If you don’t mind me asking. G
Sent you an email reply. 🙂
Additional thoughts, we’ve both has horrific things happen to us but one is not worse then the other. Look at your life, the trauma, picking yourself up and putting one foot in front of another to make big achievements that need to be celebrated and you should be proud of. We inspre each other.
Thanks
This sounds really full on and quite triggering. Im glad you had the ability to protect yourself from it. Personally I cant handle seeing violence of any kind even in film I have a phobia of violence in particular violent men.
I so hear you. I’m glad that you protect yourself from these things. I have horrific nightmares regularly…so I can never escape from ‘triggering’ shows in my head in the middle of the night. G
I know exactly what you mean with that, the nightmares. I feel for you sending a remote hug. It sounds likw PTSD is still very intense I would speak to someone to get help. I found EMDR therapy helped me, it was expensive though but don’t regret it.
I just looked at an article about it…no way would I watch it looks terrifying. That poor kid I am glad his story is being told for his memory and his life to be validated. Im glad the father got the death penalty
I had a friend who did EMDR therapy. He found it very helpful.
I watched ‘Night of the Hunter’ 1955 and was permanently traumatized by it.
It’s rated PG-13. !!!
So, you can never really know what will trigger you…sometimes the damage can happen just watching the nightly news. G
