We are not ourselves; actually there is nothing we can call a ‘self’ any more; we are manifold, we have as many selves as there are groups to which we belong…The neurotic has overtly a disease from which everybody is suffering…
– J. H. Van Den Burg.
Thank you for posting that! My introverted nature needed to read those words.
u r welcome
suffering is the world and right now so many issues…I breathe and look for beauty as I need to believe we:I can be more….I see many mirror handlers,..I also appreciate quiet ☺ smiles
I find beauty a personal thing though….my idea of beauty is dumpsters full of rotting food.
for sure negotiating our subjectivities always…”Beauty can be consoling, disturbing, sacred, profane; it can be exhilarating, appealing, inspiring, chilling. It affects in unlimited ways and is never viewed with indifference. The appreciation of beauty also requires, what Scruton calls, “disinterested interest”, an ability to maintain a certain distance between the self and the beautiful object…there are many ideas of beauty…each day i look 🙂 many smiles Gavin…hoping to capture snow here today 🙂
I like the disinterested interest. You are so wise.
well i don’t know…but i do think disinterested interest…means being non judgemental…but of course knowing we negotiate our subjectivities….it think Kant started this conversation but he’s a dwm so i don’t know anymore…many smiles love the banter…compose a disinterested interesting day Gavin 😀 😀 😀
Faço minhas estas palavras:
Se a roupa não faz o monge e que as aparências enganam como saber quem é quem?
Steel my these words:
If clothes do not make the monk and what appearances deceive how to know who is who?
