ugly world

Recently, I wanted to say ‘thank you’ to one of my favorite web sites that provides me with  free  music in the form of ‘podcasts’ all year round 💜

I logged in, and wrote a comment of thanks. Then I started reading the other comments….

There was page after page of hateful, ugly comments!

I can say that, in the past, I suffered from resentment, but have never really been a ‘hater’ in the sense of the term we use today.

Just because we now have the internet, the haters now have an anonymous way of spewing ugly hate onto the world.

This to me, has nothing to do with ‘free speach’ as it doesn’t really have anything to offer to the reader, other than ugly language. IMO.

I remember a poster years ago that said: ‘no haters here’. LOL. The poster was hating the haters. LOL. Quite funny and contradictory.

I also know that we all have to put up with it, and live with it i.e. the president of the United State’s Twitter ing. But I still find it difficult to accept.

Particularly when the website I’m referring to offers all of its services for free!

  1. This world has a long way to go…the internet is just a tool, and can be used for positive or negative messages. My stomach turns at the passive aggressive messages that people put out there- very cryptic- they air their hatred for the world to see. Good post:-)

      1. I have an extremely limited social media world right now. I use it to try to keep up with organizations in my community, and the schools where I teach.

  2. First of all, I’ve missed your work. Secondly, Merry Christmas, Gav. 🙂 And thirdly, I think it’s possible to say, “No haters here” without hating the haters. I think if a person issues a general statement of simply “no haters here” or “haters are not welcome here” (etc.) then it can be taken objectively and without heated emotion attached, ya know? (Understandably, some people wouldn’t be able to leave it at that.) But for those who merely issue the statement, I think it can be an objective statement. And yes, I know what you mean about people hating these past few years (specifically on the internet) a whole lot more! Wow. Back in the day, when we were just getting familiar with the internet- in the days of the BBS and sysops (and Dos- haha)- no doubt you remember those days well. 😉 Back then, and even in the first decade of the internet, people still had the decency to communicate with a shred of dignity. But the cover of anonymity has grown into an ugly beast of unparalleled proportions. It’s incredible. There’s a Scripture in the Bible that I think of regarding this. Hope it’s alright to share it. It mentions people who are so wicked (and hateful), that they cannot sleep unless they do bad things to others. (Proverbs 4:16 – “For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep is taken away ,unless they cause some to fall.”) I remember reading that as a teenager and being blown away by it. Sadly, now- they’re everywhere, as you’ve indicated. Yes, ugly world indeed, and I don’t see them going away (or improving) any time soon, unfortunately.

Glad there are people like you peppered throughout the world to offer SOME sort of balance and hope. 😉 And I mean that! x

  3. “No haters here” yes. i agree with you….it’s OK.

i think it just had a touch of irony….
i.e. i get so surprised at people on flickr who have public content, getting offended very easily by comments on their stream.
If you are that sensitive, why bother(?)

‘ Back then, and even in the first decade of the internet, people still had the decency to communicate with a shred of dignity.’ yep. i remember.

    Proverbs 4:16 excellent

    Thank you so much.
